RX-93 n-Gundam

Synopsis: With the CCA line announced the Nu Gundam was a shoe in to be present in the first wave of figures. However its somewhat surprising that the Nu was the only good guy unit out there. I suppose a Jegan may be on the drawing board but so far Nu is alone to fight the Sazabi and the army of Jagd and Geara Dogas. The GM custom looking close to a Jegan cant even render assistance given the difference of the sizes of the CCA line.

All in all in terms of appearance Nu looks good but has some annoying flaws.

The Figure: By itself the figure is pretty nice, if not a little thin when compared to the Neo Zeon units but that is more do to an element of actual design versus any compromises taken to make the figure. The head has the mobility in terms of elevation and can rotate 360 degrees. The detail is pretty good, better in terms then some of the other CCA suits. The arms are pretty standard. Good Articulation is featured and the sliding hilt housing for the Small Beam saber is pretty nice. The hands particularly the right hand is a bit bothersome. The Bazooka cant be held to well and the large beam saber will want to fall off at times. A groove created by the fingers can hold the small beam saber and the greater hand can hold the beam rifle. With two of the four accessories able to be held the way they should be held is not a great accomplishment.
The Legs of the Nu Gundam are pretty good in both articulation and detail. One long-standing detail missed in most gundam figures is the thruster nozzles in the back of the calves which is depicted here. All in all the movement of the legs isnt hindered at all. The torso is well detailed however the torso can not rotate at the waist. This flaw is not from the backpack like some of figures but from the torso itself. The Backpack is pretty nice in that it can store the funnels, Bazooka and Beam saber on it. 4 movable thrusters are also found on it. The backpack is removable.

The Accessories:

Beam Rifle: This black and white gun is well detailed and actually fits well in the hand.

Bazooka: I like the detail in this accessory. The rounds can be seen and the attention to detail on this weapon. Too bad the Nu has trouble holding it and keeping it. The Bazooka can be stored in the backpack rater well.

Shield: Unlike the other figures in this line this shield doesnt connect by a peg, instead the shield connects by clamping on the back of the forearm, this is the same section that houses the small beam saber hilt. The shield wont hinder the sliding out feature of that assembly.

Small Beam saber: Detail is that of a standard MSiAs saber only more secure then most. A very curious feature considering most beam sabers of the CCA line a tab flimsy at times. The hilt follows in the footsteps of the GM Cannon II in that it houses in the forearm. However in contrast to the GM Cannon II the hilt of the Nu can be a little trouble to get out even using the slide out feature of the assembly.

Large Beam Saber: This is an interesting sword and the length is matched only by his nemesis. A spare hilt was included and connects to the backpack but it can fall unless secured. This hilt is meant to be the closed hilt. The open hilt already attached to the beam blades looks rather nice with the two blades(one long, one small) however the hilt does have a bit of trouble being held by the right hand and as an added flaw the lengthy blade is a bit flimsy due to the narrow base of where connections take place.

The funnels: The funnels were a large disappointment. Only one is detachable and able to be opened, the rest is locked up as plastic. Perhaps a gripe considered minor to some but after seeing the funnels of just about every other CCA unit I find this problem to be a major disappointment for this figure.

Play Value: Here is where the figures flaws show. Although the figure itself is rather articulate, the figure is not to stable in holding its weapons and being played with at the same time. This especially noticed when wielding the Bazooka and the large beam saber in the right hand.

Display Value: Although not much of a figure to play with, Nu is a pretty good display piece. The detail of the figure can be better appreciated in this role and the articulation can help make posing possible. Not only that its only natural to have the main good guy stand by your Sazabi!!

Dollar Value: With size as an issue as well as accessory load this figure meets up with the price paid but not much more. The fact that this is the nemesis to Sazabi to some may necessitate its purchase. Frankly if the hands were to be reworked this figure would be greater even despite the flimsiness of the large beam saber and the chunk of plastic representing the funnels.

Conclusion: This figure is pretty good in terms of movement however problems in holding some of its weaponry is a critical factor to contend with. Its got quite a few gimmicks as well however all the gimmicks in the world won't help Nu hold its Bazooka and big beam saber properly.

Score: 6.5/10 Although the figure itself has some good articulation, some major flaws really hinders this figure.
